Managing anger

Visible thinking routine - Creating space
We started the day with this visible thinking routine to help students let go of the feelings and thoughts that might not be supportive in their learning or might act as an obstruction.

WALT
Continuing this practice, Ms. Chetna shared the learning outcomes for the day. The students could choose which ones they wanted to start with and what would they like to work on as the day progressed. Considering their choice we started with exploring the learner profile attribute- open-minded.

Learner profile - open-minded
Ms.Chetna read aloud the book Giraffes can't dance. Students could easily connect with the characters who were open-minded and how did that attitude impact the story. We couldn't stop ourselves from dancing after that.😁

Multiplication centres
Some students chose to work in centres, reflecting on their understanding of multiplication. The concepts we worked on were
  • Multiplying 2 digit numbers with single-digit numbers.
  • Creating story problems
  • The inverse relationship between multiplication and division
  • Multiplication with regrouping
This helped us identify that we need to continue working on regrouping and inverse relationship

Temporal words
Students who had chosen to work on using temporal words, started by watching a video. Next to that, they wrote a narrative of their choice using the temporal words. This was an independent station and I am happy that all the students could work on their own without any help.

Managing our emotions
All of us shared situations where we have had conflicts. Students shared situations involving friends. They were encouraged to think of such situations at home where the face conflict with parents and siblings. All of us started sharing examples from our lives and the ways we resolved these conflicts. Students were introduced to Kelso's wheel of choices through a song. We further discussed how these choices can help us build positive relationships by managing anger.
