“Life doesn't make any sense without interdependence. We need each other, and the sooner we learn that the better for us all.”
― Erik H. Erikson
Reading with the specialist
The day started with reading in our own groups. We read together a book on the food chain. It helped us understand the concept really well. Ms. Chetna asked if we were willing to share the knowledge with our peers and we agreed.
Subtraction
Students chose to work on Subtraction in this lesson and so we did. Ms. Chetna shared the problem on screen and solved it using a number line. Most of the students could identify that there was an error. They were quick to mention that Ms. Chetna had moved forward on the number line instead of going backward as is required when we take away. She posed another problem and as always guided the students to move to room 1 if they were confident to be able to do it independently. It was amazing to see all of the students moving to room 1. Mira required help so she stayed back with Ms. Chetna. The next step was to solve the problem using the number bonds/ splitting strategy.
Human impact on the local environment.
As discussed in the morning, the session started with students helping their peers understand the concept of the food chains by working in breakout rooms. On returning to the main session Ms.Chetna shared a video to help us understand it better. In the video, we heard the new word 'photosynthesis'. Some of the students volunteered to find to its meaning and share it with the class tomorrow. We watched another video and shared our connections by posting in the chat. Students could make connections with the concept of interdependence and took it further by discussing how we can positively impact other living things around us. Ms. Chetna encouraged us to think of actions we do or have heard others doing that impact other living things negatively. Students shared thoughtful responses in the chat. Tomorrow during the student-led session we will share our findings/research about people/organizations which are working towards helping other living beings.
Hello! Rishaan was able to understand today's reading session on food chain. He was also happy to share the impact of human on environment. He is excited to share about photosynthesis and the animal/plant adaptation research tomorrow. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteKiarash could somewhat understood the food chain concept but really enjoyed drawing the picture of it. He had some difficulty in subtraction but enjoyed the game and is eager to pick up. Not to mention he enjoyed the caring and emotional video a lot. In Hindi he did some writing . Thanks
